Newly elected Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) vice-president Nurul Haque Nur on Thursday expressed solidarity with the Ruqayyah Hall protesters who are on hunger strike demanding reelection to their Hall Union and resignation of the hall provost.
Describing the girls demands logical, Nur said the hall provost should step down as soon as possible since ‘she does not have any moral rights to cling onto her post.
The Ducsu VP-elect sharply criticized the DU authorities saying that the administration even does not care whether the girls live or die.
The demonstrators have already spent a night at the hall gate. Nur, also a joint convener of General Students’ Rights Reservation Council, voiced concerns over the security of the girls.
Meanwhile, Mostafizur Rahman, who ran the Ducsu polls for vice president post from Jatiyabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) panel, also expressed solidarity with the girls.
The JCD leader also pledged to take the movement forward with the protesters.
The girls are continuing their hunger strike for the third consecutive day as ‘the hall provost failed to hold a fair election’.
