Having continued to train with the Real Madrid first-team squad after the international break, Vinicius Junior is trying his best to convince Julen Lopetegui that the time is right to give him his first opportunity in the league.
The young Brazilian is awaiting the nod from his coach ahead of this weekend’s clash with Athletic Club, having scored a brace in the reserves’ derby against Atletico Madrid B.
The 18-year-old is hoping to be included in the squad and get some minutes in one of the country’s best stadiums, the Estadio San Mames.
Any inclusion wouldn’t prevent him from playing for the Castilla the following day against Unionistas in the Spanish capital.
It’s clear though that it won’t be easy to find a space on the first-team bench, considering Lopetegui has a wealth of talent at his disposal including new signing Mariano.
The coach may well wait until Saturday, when Los Blancos travel to Bilbao, to reveal his team selection.
In other news, Javi Sanchez was the only addition to a training session which saw all members of the first-team present.
