Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman said the three students of the university’s Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall were handed over to their guardians to protect ‘the hall’s dignity and other students as they were allegedly spreading fake news in Facebook’.
“It was a due responsibility of the hall authority to inform the guardians after identifying those students who are spreading false information,” said the DU VC while talking to the reporters at his residence on Friday.
On Thursday midnight, Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall authority called on the guardians of some students and handed the students to them on the allegation that the girls had spread rumours on Facebook during the April 10 incident at the hall.
Mentioning the hall authority’s decision ‘a good job’ the VC said: “It was done to safeguard the dignity of the hall and all the students.”
Denying the allegation that the authority threw the students out late night the VC said: “The three students were handed to their families and another was allowed to stay in the hall as her father reached the hall late from Dhamrai.”
The three students are – Farhin and Sharmin Akter Shuvo of mathematics department and Kamrun Nahar Liza of theatre and performance studies department.
On April 10, some photos of a student of the university’s Sufia Kamal Hall went viral on social media.
The victim, Morsheda, alleged that some female BCL leaders tortured her for participating in the quota reforms demonstration.
Some photos of her wounded leg went viral on Facebook with captions that the president of the BCL hall unit Esha had cut Morsheda’s leg.
Soon after the incident, the accused was suspended both form the university and the organization. But, she was taken back later.
