Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit’s Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) members vandalised a teacher’s office room in his absence over a Facebook post on Monday.
Assistant professor of Department of Anthropology Mohammad Monjur-Ul-Haider was the victim, who made a post on Saturday saying: “Counting days. The joyous August is coming.”
This created a controversy and later BCL activists ransacked the teacher’s office room.
Senior Vice-President of suspended SUST unit BCL Abu Sayeed said: “Such inappropriate attitude towards the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will not be tolerated by Chhatra League. The university administration have been informed regarding this. If they fail to take actions against the teacher then we will arrange appropriate punishment for him.”
Monjur clarified his stance and said the post was not written with the intention of hurting anyone.
“It was about an article which was scheduled to get published on a research journal in August, which also coincides with my wife’s birthday,” he said.
