Around five people including a police constable were injured in clashes between pickets and police at different places including Rajarhata, Hetemkha, Kajirganj, Dingadoba, Dorikhorgona in the city this morning.
According to the police sources, the clashes erupted when hartal supporters blocked roads in the areas by burning tyres and were resisted by police.
Police constable Nur Muhammad of Boalia Police Station was injured when some pickets threw brick chips targeting police at Kadirgonj area of Rajarhata. He was given necessary treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Other injured persons received treatment at different local clinics.
SM Moniruzzaman, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, told the journalists that police arrested three hartal supporters from the spot when they hurled brick chips on police.
Talking to the newsmen, Member of Central BNP Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul claimed that seven BNP workers were injured when police fired rubber bullets during the clashes at Dorikhorgona and Rajarhata.
Rickshaws and human haulers like tempo and CNG-run auto- rickshaw are dominating the city streets as the other vehicles are off the roads. No long-distance bus entered or left the local bus terminal.
Dhaka-bound Silk City Express and Khulna-bound Express trains left the Rajshahi Railway station on time, said Saiful Alam, chief operating officer of West Zone Railway.
Meanwhile, law enforcers have adopted foolproof security measures at every sensitive points of the metropolis since the early morning to protect the public life and assets through averting any untoward incident.
