Former president Hossain Muhammad Ershad led Jatiya Party on Saturday appointed the party’s senior co-chairperson Rowshan Ershad as deputy leader of the opposition in the parliament, relieving GM Quader from the post.
“As Chairman of Jatiya Party and leader of the opposition in the House, I am removing GM Quader from the post of deputy leader. Begum Rowshan Ershad has been nominated for the post,” said the former military ruler in a press release issued this afternoon.
The decision has been taken according to the article 20(1)K of the party’s constitution and a proposal has already been sent to the speaker of the house to take necessary measures in this regard, the press statement said.
On Friday, the JaPa chairman relieved his brother GM Quader from the post of co-chairman, saying that he has failed to discharge his duties and rather created divisions within the party.
He said he had earlier declared that Quader would be in overall charge of leading the party in his absence and expected that he would be elected party chairman in the next council.
