Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained Bir Protik Habibul Alam from Bangla Motor in Dhaka for reportedly having link to international money laundering gang.
The war hero was detained on Thursday.
Habibul is Managing Director of Information Service Network.
His sister Professor Shaheen Alam told reporters that some RAB men picked her brother up from his office around 1:30pm and asked the ISN employees to follow them on another car to the RAB-1 office in Uttara.
RAB’s legal and media wing director Mufti Mahmud Khan informed that that they will question the freedom fighter for alleged links with a South African ring of fraudsters currently operating in Bangladesh.
The ring earns money through fraud and sends those abroad.
“Somehow Habibul and the ring had contacts. He may also be a victim,” the RAB spokesperson said.
He said the decorated freedom fighter was not arrested.
Habibul was a member of Crack Platoon, a group of guerillas that conducted operations against the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators in Dhaka during the Liberation War.
