Protesters demonstrating for quota reformation have demanded the removal of the provost of Dhaka University’s Sufia Kamal Hall.
The demonstrators came up with the demand on Friday while denouncing the “throwing out” of female students from Sufia Kamal Hall in the middle of the night.
The agitating students asked the DU authorities to remove hall Provost Prof Sabita Rizwana immediately.
They also threatened to take to the streets again along with the general students if Prof Sabita Rizwana is not removed at once.
Nurul Huq, joint convener of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, said, “Ousting the students from the residential hall at midnight shows the moral degradation of the provost.”
Nurul Huq, a member of the reformation demo’s central committee, came up with the comment after a protest rally at Dhaka University campus.
More than two hundred students brought out the rally to condemn of the Sufia Kamal Hall incident.
“The move to drive out students who took part in the agitation earlier this month is being used as a tool to instill panic among the students,” added Nur.
Mohammad Rashed Khan, another joint convener of the platform, said, “Those who took part in the movement are getting death threats and conspiracies are being hatched against them.”
“We demand an immediate solution to this uneasy situation,” he added.
Rashed also urged the authorities to bring back the students to the hall with dignity.
