National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power, and Ports has held a human chain at Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong.
They protested the killing of the four people who were shot during the protest of against the installation of a coal-based power plant there.
Human Rights Activist Advocate Sultana Kamal, who was present at the demonstration said, “The plant should not be built here as people are not demanding it. And no power plant is required when it is satisfying a few people, at the expense of the livelihood and the environment.”
Prof Anu Muhammad, member secretary of the committee said, “We are urging the government to remove the plan to set up the power plant here.”
He also demanded compensation for the families of the deceased.
He alleged that the government did not conduct research properly before took the initiative to build a power plant here.
At least four people were killed and 30 others injured in a clash between law enforcers and locals in Banshkhali upazila over installation of a coal-based power plant.
