Police on Saturday foiled a demonstration programme organised by Narayanganj unit of BNP demanding release of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia and its leaders and activists from jail.
The protest programme was announced earlier by the BNP central committee.
Police members barred the BNP leaders and activists when they tried to gather and hold a protest rally in front of Narayanganj Press Club around 10:30am,.
Protesting the police resistance, the BNP activists tried to stage a sit-in in front of the press club but they were forced to leave the spot.
“We gathered there to hold a peaceful programme as per instruction from the central committee. However, the policemen did not even let us stand there,” said ATM Kamal, secretary of Narayanganj city unit of BNP.
