Police have recovered the dead body of two and a half year old child’s body from a house in Dhaka’s Banglamotor where a reportedly ‘drug addicted’ father had kept his two sons hostage since Wednesday morning.
Law enforcers have managed to rescue the other child alive and have detained the father Akhtaruzzaman Kajol at around 2pm, said police sources.
Armed cops broke into the house at around 1:50pm and found the body of the child placed on a table and covered in white clothe.
The house was cordoned off for since morning after a Moulavi who was called in the house to pray had notified the police after he saw a one of the child unconscious in the house.
Police could not enter the house beforehand as Kajol was carrying a sharp weapon while holding one child in his arm.
Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-2 said law enforcers found the other child dead and wrapped in white clothe.
The lawmen broke into the house following allegation that the father held his two children hostage inside the house.
Deputy commissioner of DMP (Ramna division) told reporters that the man, Akhtaruzzaman Kajol, is mentally unstable and his wife has left him for this reason.
Witnesses said that Kajol went out of the house around 8:00am this morning and brought in a cleric (Moulvi) for offering prayers at the house.
After the prayers, the cleric informed Shahbagh police that he saw a child in an unconscious state inside the house.
A team of Shahbagh police led by Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan then went to the house and found it was locked from inside.
