A Narail court on Tuesday rejected a bail petition by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed over her ‘derogatory remarks’ about freedom fighters of the Liberation War of 1971.
Judge Sheikh Abdul Ahadof of the District and Session’s Judge Court passed the order after hearing the bail petition.
Back in May 30, Judge Sheikh Abdul Ahad set Tuesday for passing an order on the bail petition filed by BNP’s international affairs secretary Adv Masud Ahmed Talukder on behalf of Khaleda Zia.
On December 21, 2015, while speaking at a discussion at the Institute of Engineers, Khaleda Zia raised questions about the actual number of Liberation War martyrs.
“There’re controversies over how many were martyred in the Liberation War. There’re also many books and documents on the controversies,” the BNP chief had said.
Reacting over the Khaleda’s remarks, Raihan Farooque Imam of Naragati Upazila of Narail district filed a case with the Cognisance Court on December 24, 2015.
