Dr. Ashiqur Rahman Shanto, son of the founding Chairman Naziur Rahman Manju, has resigned from Bangladesh Jatiyo Party (BJP). He submitted the resignation letter yesterday. Dr. Shanto told Ittefaq the reason behind his resignation is the long term difference in opinion over the party’s political stand.
Naziur Rahman Manju broke away from HM Ershad and formed BJP. After his death, his eldest son Andaleeve Rahman Partho became the chairman. His middle son Dr. Ashiqur Rahman Shanto contested in the previous general election from Bhola-2 constituency but lost to Awami League’s Tofail Ahmed.
Party sources said there was ideological differences between the two brothers over the party’s alignment with the opposition coalition. Shanto was always against Jamaat’s inclusion in the coalition.
