A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, secretary general of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.
The court granted him bail in an extortion case but he cannot get out of jail at the moment as police on Monday appealed to the court to show him arrested in another case filed under the Explosive Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mazharul Haque passed the order after Mozammel’s lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua move a petition before the court seeking his bail.
Police arrested Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, secretary general of passenger’s rights platform Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, from his Sanarpar house in Narayanganj around 3:00 am on September 6.
He was arrested two days after the extortion case was filed with Mirpur Police Station.
In the case statement, complainant Md Dulal alleged that Mozammel demanded Tk.2 lakh from him while claiming to be a transport leader.
The complainant claimed that he had paid Tk.10 thousand to Mozammel in front of Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur on September 3.
Mozammel was placed on a day’s remand for interrogation hours after he was arrested.
