A missing police constable’s body has been found in the river on Friday morning.
The policeman, named Shaheen, went missing after jumping into the Kaliganga River for arresting a convicted on Thursday afternoon.
A rescue operation was started around 9:30 am while the body was found around 1:15 pm, said Rifat Rahman Shamim, superintendent of Manikganj police.
Around 5:00pm on Thursday, a team of police led by sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam conducted a drive in Joynagar area to arrest Salam, a convicted accused in a drug case, said Rakibuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
At one stage, Salam jumped into the river to escape arrest.
Following the convict, the police member also jumped into the river and went missing.
Later, Salam managed to come out and went into hiding while the constable remained missing, the OC said.
