Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been sent to jail as doctors certified that she was fit to serve her term in prison.
“She was sent to the jail after doctors examined her health condition,” the home boss told Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
The BNP chief and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was released from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital and taken to the old Dhaka Central Jail at Nazimuddin Road here on Thursday.
She was then produced before a special court set up at the old jail complex.
She was admitted to the hospital on October 6 after the High Court had ordered the government to shift her to the hospital for her treatment.
The 73-year old is currently serving a 10-year prison term in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.
