BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir here on Thursday alleged that the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been taken to prison illegally.
“Doctors did not release her. This was all the doing of the hospital’s director,” said the BNP leader while talking to reporters at the gates of old central jail on Nazimuddin Road.
The BNP chief and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been shifted to Old Dhaka Central Jail from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan said the decision of shifting Khaleda Zia to prison is ‘inhumane’.
“She needs more treatment. Doctors have said she will become paralysed without proper treatment. Instead, they’ve taken her to prison,” said the BNP leader while speaking at a discussion program at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka today.
The 73-year old ex-premier landed in the old central jail on February 8 after a special court sentenced her to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Later on October 30, the High Court enhanced her punishment to 10 years jail in the case.
Besides, she was also sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case on October 29.
