Today at Jumma Friday prayers, there has been an extensive clash with Islamic activists against the police in the capital Dhaka. Several were injured and the police has detained hundreds of activists from the venue.
Police were able to intercept the procession of the Islamist parties as they moved towards the press club from the Baitul Mokaram mosque.
Motijheel Police Department Deputy Commissioner Anwar Hossain said, “because they did not have permission for the rally, they barred them but despite the warning they still attacked the police.”
Police sources said that the they were attacked by 40-45 tear-gas shells and 40 rubber bullets. 5 police officials were injured and taken to the Rajarbagh Police Hospital.
