A group of cyclists from India arrived in Bangladesh on their bicycles to pay tribute to the the martyrs of the Language Movement ahead of the International Mother Language Day.
Led by Chandan Biswas, he six youths embarked on the adventurous journey ‘Akkhorjatra’ arranged by Touch of Heaven and arrived in Bangladesh on February 15.
Other members of the group are Angur Barman, Rahul Sen, Rajat Saha, Subrata Chatterjee and Rensodel Manuel.
They reached Faridpur district around 9 am on Thursday and placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on the campus of Faridpur Government Rajendra College to pay tribute to the Martyrs.
Later they started for Manikganj.
Chandan said that they have tremendous respect for the Bengali language and that is why they their journey ‘Akkhorjatra’.
Subrata said their journey will complete their journey by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on February 21.
Earlier, on February 14, the Indian group left for Dhaka from Kolkata Press Club by riding bicycles.
They went to Jessore on February 15, Magura on the 16th and Faridpur on 17.
They placed wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar of each district and stood in solemn silence there for one minute.
