Seven-time champions India are all set for another final against one-time champion Maldives in the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018.
Following a 3-1 victory against Pakistan, India made it to their seventh straight final of the prestigious tournament.
The Bangabandhu National Stadium witnessed an exciting game between the two South Asian rivals as Manvir Singh scored twice early in the second half before substitute Sumeet Passi shot for a clear lead of 3-1.
Both teams had a man sent off as tempers flared towards the end and Pakistan mustered a goal through Hassan Bashir but there was no comeback for Jose Antonio Nogueira’s men.
Meanwhile, Maldives triumphed over Nepal 3-0 in the first semifinal. An early strike from captain Akram Abdul Ghanee and two late goals from Ibrahim Hassan Waheed sealed the fate for the finalists.
Maldives had to depend on the luck of a coin toss to progress to the last four after collecting a single point from two group games.
Nepal’s flare in the group stages was missing in the semis. They had won back-to-back matches after an opening-game defeat to Pakistan.
The final, to be played on Saturday, will be the fourth time India and Maldives will play in the title-decider.
