The High Court has adjourned the hearing of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appeal petition against five-year jail term in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case till July 15.
The court also extended Khaleda’s bail in the case till July 19.
The High Court bench of Justice Mostafizur Rahman and Justice M Enayetur Rahim has passed the order on Thursday.
The HC bench started the hearing at around 11am where AJ Mohammad Ali, Moudud Ahmed, Zainul Abedin and Mahbub Uddin Khokan were present in court on behalf of BNP chairperson.
Deputy Attorney General Farhad Ahmed and ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan were also present.
At first, Khaleda’s lawyer Abdur Razzak Khan started reading the FIR from the paperbook in the case. The charge sheet was read by A.J. Mohammad Ali.
The defence lawyers appealed to the court to extend Khaleda’s bail term saying that the ongoing term of her bail in the case is going to be ended on July 12.
After the petition, the court extended bail till July 19.
On 9 July, the High Court has fixed July 12 for hearing of Khaleda’s appeals against the lower court verdict in the graft case.
