State Minister for Information Tarana Halim said the government will form a monitoring cell to identify rumors spread through social media.
“The ‘Rumor Identification and Removal Centre’ will be in operation 24 hours at the PID section of Information Ministry from this month,” said the junior minister while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.
The cell will also inform the local media outlets through a press release within three hours of identifying any rumor, she said.
“Seven experts will be appointed for working in each shift,” said the state minister adding that the BNP-Jammat alliance is continuously spreading rumors through the social networking sites.
“They have opened a publicity cell in London and spreading rumour from 300 websites,” said Tarana.
She said the cell will also work for spreading truth and raising awareness among people.
Talking about the country’s first ever satellite Bangabandhu-1, the state minister said, “A letter has been sent to private television channels requesting them to use Bangabandhu-1 as it is capable to provide service.”
