Heavy fog cross the country has massively slowed down ferry services.
Not only did low visibility slow down road vehicles. but ferry services from the capital to two major southern ports have also been halted due to the fog.
The Daulatdia-Paturia ferry between Rajbari and Manikganj was closed at 4am, while the Shimulia-Kathalbari ferry from Munshiganj to Madaripur has been closed since 6am.
Over 1,000 vehicles are currently stalled at the four ports. The passengers are also weathering the winter cold.
The marking points and beacons on the river are hardly visible which led to the closing of ferry services.
All the 33 launches at the Daulatdia port have been halted due to the fog, sources said.
Four ferries carrying over 500 passengers are currently stuck in the cold on the Shimulia-Kathalbari route as well.
