BNP’s candidate for Chattogram-5 constituency, Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin, has been turned down from contesting in the elections.
The Election Commission has rejected Nasir’s appeal for conviction in a lawsuit.
The commission today held hearing the appeals of the 160 aspirants, whose nominations were rejected by returning officers during scrutiny. Of these, the commission announced 80 candidatures valid, 79 invalid and kept another pending.
Mir Nasir accused the Election Commission of working as a “dummy of the government.” He was talking to media at the EC office premises.
BNP nominated candidates Ruhul Kuddus Talukdar Dulu from Natore-2, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku from Sirajganj-2 and Mushfiqur Rahman from Brahmanbaria-4 were also rejected.
During the EC’s hearing, Dulu has been shown as convicted in two criminal cases while Tuku in a corruption case.
Meanwhile, the appeals of top BNP nominated candidates Mostafa Kamal Pasha, Aminul Haque have been accepted.
