The newly-elected leaders of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCUS) and hall unions are currently at Gonobhaban, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence, upon her invitation.
Nurul Haque Nur, Golam Rabbani and Saddam Hossain, who have been elected as vice president, general secretary and assistant general secretary of DUCSU, and other elected leaders started for the PM’s residence around 2:00pm.
Bangladesh Chhatra League President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon is also accompanying them.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) nominated Sammilita Shikkharthi Parishad panel swept the DUCSU polls bagging most all the posts of its 25-member executive committee except the vice-president (VP) and social services secretary positions.
This is the first time in the history of DUCSU polls that ruling party’s student wing bagged most of the posts in the polls.
The quota reformist group called the Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad (BSCASP) candidate Nurul Haque Nur was elected as DUCSU vice-president, while BCL panel nominated candidate Golam Rabbani won general secretary (GS) post.
All panels except the BCL had at first boycotted the polls citing irregularities and vote rigging, but later on BCL also had demanded re-election as its VP candidate lost against Nur.
Amid high tensions between student political parties, the Ducsu polls ended with BCL accepting Nur as the new VP.
