Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has conducted a drive to clear the footpaths in front of Russian and Saudi embassies in Dhaka’s Gulshan diplomatic enclave.
Authorities pulled down an iron fence in front of the Russian embassy and removed several potted plants as well.
DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq briefed reporters during the drive that started on Thursday 11:30am.
The mayor said the drive was conducted to ease the movement of pedestrians in the area.
He added that the embassies had been contacted beforehand over the matter and the footpaths have been cleared with their consent.
The mayor met with Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander I. Ignatov at the embassy to inform him about the drives and assured him of foolproof security of the diplomats.
The DNCC authorities also conducted the drives in front of the Saudi Embassy, which started around 12:15pm.
