A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Awami League, was hacked to death by unidentified criminals in Dhaka city’s Karail area Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Rakib Hossain (25), president of No. 19 ward unit of BCL.
Alamgir Jalil, sub-inspector of Banani Police Station, said that a gang of miscreants swooped on Rakib while he and his friend Nur Islam was standing beside an Ansar camp in the area around 11:45pm.
They stabbed Rakib and his friend indiscriminately, leaving them critically injured, SI Jalil said.
The duo were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on duty doctors declared Rakib dead.
Police are looking into possibilities of family feud and previous enmity behind the killing.
