The death toll in the collision of a passenger bus and a minibus in Central Russia’s Tver Region has reached 13, the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry informed TASS on Friday.
“According to the latest data, the accident has left 13 people dead, 17 others were injured, four of them are being transported to the hospital by the ambulance,” the press service said.
A truck is believed to have swerved and rammed a minibus going in the opposite direction on a federal highway in the Chuvashia region at 7:10 p.m. (16:10GMT).
“There were 22 casualties in the accident, 12 of them were fatalities,” a spokesman for the emergency authority’s central regional center told Sputnik.
Five people were taken to hospitals, the official said, adding four of them were in serious condition. An official at the situation room told Sputnik they were receiving emergency care at a clinic in the region’s main city of Cheboksary. The bus driver survived and is receiving medical help.
The regional Interior Ministry said the passengers of the private vehicle were heading to Moscow to work.
