It was clear that the red-and-white past of Thibaut Courtois would be talked about in the press conference where he was presented as a new player of Real Madrid, and the Belgian moved quickly to apologise for some chanting against his new employers from when he was an Atletico Madrid player.
When questioned, he didn’t hesitate in his response.
“At that time I was very young,” he said to reporters.
“I let myself go for the moment, but I ask for forgiveness as it’s not typical of me.
“I will give everything for the shield of Madrid.”
Courtois went on to say that if he played the European Super Cup against Atletico, it would be a “special” game.
