Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday alleged that a certain communal force carried out attacks on the Rangpur Hindu community with an aim to destroy the “good relations” etween Bangladesh and India.
“An evil force launched the brutal attack ahead of the next general elections. The communal force launched the attack on Hindu community and looted their property. They want to destroy good relations with India,” said Quader.
He made the allegation while talking to reporters after visiting the Hindu community that came under attack of local Muslims on 11 November following a Facebook post by a Hindu man which, the Muslims claim, contained derogatory remarks about Muslims’ prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
A man was killed when police opened fire to disperse the angry mob that turned violent and launched arson attacks on Hindu homes in Rangpur’s Gangachara upazila following the Facebook post.
“Those who want to destroy relations with India are living in a fools’ paradise,” said Quader.
Quader said those who were involved in the attack must be brought to justice no matter how much powerful they are.
He claimed that the incidents of Nasirnagar, Ramu and Rangpur are all connected and this is a part of a plot.
