The accident in which a teen driven car that occurred on Monday in Dhaka’s Gulshan area has made the hashtag #ClassyKidsOfDhaka and #RichKidsOfDhaka viral.
The 16-year-old, Fareez Rahman is said to have posted a photo on social media site Snapchat with the caption “My life > your life” a couple of hours before the incident. The caption appeared on a picture of a bottle of whiskey next to the steering wheel, which was shared from his account.
He allegedly even posted another photo on Snapchat captioned ‘Going to the police station with dad’ after the accident occured. The photo has been shared by ‘Moja Loss’.
Following the release of the photo, social media went viral with the hashtags #ClassykidsofDhaka, #RichKidsOfDhaka and the caption “My life > your life” as a mockery of the boy’s – and his friends’ – ridiculous blogging on social media about their affluence.
Fareez is the son of HBM Jahidur Rahman, chairman of INNOTEL, and Shaila Shelly Khan, a director of Premier Bank and the nephew of Awami League MP from Dhaka HBM Iqbal.
He was driving the SUV without a driving license.
A Gulshan Police Station sub-inspector, requesting anonymity, said, “The boy was drunk. He hit two rickshaws while driving recklessly on Gulshan’s Road-74. Two rickshaw-pullers and two others were injured at the time.”
Fareez also happened to be filming himself on his mobile phone while driving the car, one of his friends said.
He also took selfies while driving, and sent those to his friends through photo-messaging app Snapchat.
“They have arranged treatment for the injured people. The car has been seized,” he said.
The teen was arrested after the incident, but the police later released him.
OC Islam said “necessary steps will be taken”, if the victims file compliant.
Even a day after the accident, no case had been filed and Rahman was allowed to walk free.
