The Cabinet has approved the draft of the ‘Motorcycle Industry Development Policy-2018′ with a view to expand the locally made motorbike industry and to reduce import dependency.
The approval has been given at the cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Monday.
“The government has set a target to produce five lakh motorcycles by 2021 and 10 lakh by 2027,” said Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam while briefing media after the meeting.
Currently, there is an opportunity of employment of five lakh people in motorcycle industry, said the secretary adding, “It’ll be promoted to 15 lakh by 2027 in the new policy.”
Apart from this policy, the cabinet approved the draft of Bngladesh Shishu Academy Bill-2018, he said.
Moreover, a four-member committee has been formed to scrutinize the draft of Bangladesh Engineering Research Council Bill-2018.
