A head-on collision between a bus and leguna (small pick-up turned human hauler) has left 7 people dead in Chakaria area of Cox’s Bazar district.
Five more people have been injured in the accident, confirmed SI of Harbang Highway Police camp Md Nuruddin.
On Monday, at around 11:45am, the accident occurred in the Boroitoli area of Harbang municipality of Chakaria upazila and all of the deceased were passengers of the leguna, said the police officer.
Three people who died in the accident have been identified, namely Khayer Ahmed, 40, son of Ahmed Hossain from Adhunagar area of Lohagor upazila of Chattogram, Zahir Ahmed, 32, son of Mansur Ahmed of Chakaria upazila and Abul Kashem, 27, son of Saiful Alam of the same area.
The injured are getting treatment from different hospitals in the area.
Chakaria police station OC, Bokkhya Ahmed Chowdhury said four people were declared dead in the upazila health complex while one more died in Chakaria unique hospital and two others died in Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Quoting locals, SI Nuruddin of Chakaria police station said the leguna was travelling to Chattogram from Cox’s Bazar and a bus plying on the opposite side of the road rammed over it.
