BNP chief Khaleda Zia on Saturday announced fresh agitation after Eid-ul-Azha demanding polls under non-party caretaker government and warned of terrible consequences if government tried to create any barrier for next election. She was addressing a public meeting in Habiganj district.
“Now a great thief has joined hands with a shameless person. The country must be saved from their grasp and democracy must be rescued,” she said.”We will start demonstrations without fear, without any trouble, after the upcoming eid. If the government tries to create any obstruction, the consequences will be unpleasant and dangerous,” Khaleda warned. “No election held under the Awami League government so far has been free and fair. We believe an election under them will not be fair,” she alleged.
“We’d like to ask the government to stage the national polls under a neutral [caretaker] administration and prove their popularity,” the BNP Chairperson said.
Khaleda also questioned the neutrality of the Election Commission. “The Election Commission is not neutral. They talk in the same tone as the Awami League. No free and fair polls can take place under this puppet commission.”
