Ariful Haque Chowdhury, the BNP’s mayoral candidate in the Sylhet city corporation election, demanded reelection to the SCC polls alleging that the ruling party captured many polling stations and rigged votes.
Ariful made the demand in an application submitted to the returning officer on Monday.
“Leaders and activists of Awami League captured most polling stations in the city and stuffed the ballot boxes,” said the BNP candidate while talking to reporters.
He also alleged that his polling agents were driven out from many centres adding that presiding officers and law enforcers were helping the ruling party supporter rig votes.
“Under the circumstances, I demand cancellation of the voting and reelection to Sylhet City Corporation,” Ariful added.
He, however, said he will remain there in the race till the last minute of the polling.
Ariful cast vote at Raynagar Government Primary School centre around 8am.
