Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized 320 gold bars weighing around 37 kg from the Mathabhanga River along Nastipur border in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district on Wednesday noon.
Upon getting a tip-off that a consignment of gold would be smuggled to India through the border, BGB personnel took position around 80 No main pillar since the morning, said BGB battalion- commanding officer Iman Hasan.
The BGB team challenged three people who were moving around the pillar around 3pm, he said.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the trio dumped their three bags with gold in the river and crossed into the Indian territory by swimming across the river.
Later, the BGB members retrieved the three bags and found 320 gold bars inside those, Iman said.
