A man was apprehended in possession of 20 gold bars by members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Amrakhali area of Benapole Wednesday.
The detainee has been identified as Jikrul Islam (40), son of Alek Mollah, hailing from Lohagara upazila of Narail.
Acting on a tip-off, a BGB team conducted a drive around 11am and arrested Jikrul, said Lt Col Salim Reja, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion.
“The seized bars are worth an estimated Tk 1.15 crore,” he said. “Jikrul was trying to smuggle them to India”
The gold was deposited to Benapole customs warehouse. A case was filed in this connection.
