At least six leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured when a factional clash broke out at the campus of Dhaka University on Monday.
The injured are BCL Deputy Drama and Debate Affairs Secretary Imrul Hasan Nishu, Assistant Secretary Imran Joarder, former member Mahbub Hossain Khan, Surja Sen Hall unit Education Affairs Secretary Meshkat Hasan, Sir Salimiullah Muslim Hall unit Vice-President SM Kamal Uddin and former member of AF Rahman Hall unit Sagar Rahman.
Notably, three of the six were injured in a similar clash on March 9 over the council scheduled for May 11 and 12.
The six injured were treated at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
According to witnesses the melee started following an altercation when some BCL men including Arefin Siddique Sujon, vice president of BCL central committee, asked BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag and Secretary SM Jakir Hossain about the development of the formation of next BCL council.
The injured BCL members also claimed that they were attacked on Monday in the presence of the president of the organisation, Saifur Rahman Sohag.
Meanwhile, asked about the incident, BCL General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain refused to comment on the incident saying, “It’s an internal matter of our organisation.”
