Bangladesh Awami League has welcomed the Election Commission’s decision for fixing December 23 to hold the 11th parliamentary election.
The ruling party has also expressed its hope that all political parties would join the upcoming election in a festive mode.
“A smokescreen had been created over the national election, but it was erased today through the announcement of its schedule,” said Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif in the immediate reaction over the announcement of the election schedule.
Earlier in the evening, a meeting was held at the party President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi office to discuss the next course of action following the announcement of the polls-schedule.
Emerging from the meeting, the AL leader told reporters that the next general election will be held according to the schedule and there is no confusion in this regard.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has announced that the 11th parliamentary election will be held on December 23.
He came up with the announcement in a televised address this evening.
According to the commission’s decision, the aspirants will have to submit their nomination papers by November 19.
The nomination papers will be scrutinized on November 22 while the last date for withdrawing candidature is November 29, said the CEC.
