The pro-Awami League teachers of the University of Dhaka have reportedly fought among themselves, injuring one of their own colleagues in the process.
According to reports, members of the Blue Panel, the pro-Awami League teachers’ body of Dhaka University, got into a fight following an altercation during a meeting at the cafeteria of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on Thursday afternoon.
Sources have confirmed that the injured teacher is Professor AKM Jamal Uddin of sociology department, a supporter of former vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique.
Reports have surfaced that the newly appointed Proctor of the University, AKM Golam Rabbani, kicked Jamal Uddin while someone else broke his nose during the melee.
Professor Jamal claimed that AKM Golam Rabbani, pharmacy department Chairman Sitesh Chandra Bachar, and Prof Shah Md Masum assaulted him during the meeting after they exchanged some heated words.
Asked about the accusation, Golam Rabbani denied having attacked Jamal.
On the other hand, showing support for Jamal Uddin, Blue Panel Convenor Abdul Aziz have demanded resignation of the proctor if Rabbani is not sacked by Friday.
If he does not step down, we will be compelled to launch a movement, Abdul Aziz added.
