A Dhaka court has granted police seven days to interrogate the bus driver of Suprobhat Paribahan who run over Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury with his bus killing him on the spot.
Aminul Islam, Inspector of Gulshan Police Station, produced bus driver Sirajul Islam before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
After hearing the plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debdas Chandra Adhikari passed a 7-day remand order of driver Sirajul.
On Tuesday, a bus of Suprobhat Paribahan ran over Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, 20, a first-year student of international relations department at Bangladesh University of Professionals, near Jamuna Future Park, leaving him dead on the spot.
Abrar’s death sparked severe streets protests in the capital once again since the students across the city attempted to restore the transport system August, last year.
Police arrested Sirajul (24), son of Abul Kalam Hawlader, and seized the Suprobhat Paribhan bus that was involved in the accident. Later in the day, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) suspended the bus’ registration.
Victim’s father Brig Gen (retd) Arif Ahmed Chowdhury filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on Tuesday.
