At least 30 people including three policemen were injured in a clash between two groups of ruling Awami League in Aditmari upazila office on Sunday.
According to the witnesses and the news agencies, the clash took place centering the nomination of upcoming Upazila Parishad elections.
As the Awami League central committee nominated the party’s upazila unit general secretary Rafiqul Alam for contesting the polls, the supporters of AL leader Imrul Kayes Faruk, who also sought nomination, gathered in from of the party office in the morning, News agency UNB reports citing locals.
At one stage, Faruk’s supporters swooped on the supporters of Rafiqul as they brought out a rally.
Later, several chases and counter chases took place between the groups, the media outlet reports citing the eyewitnesses.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by firing several rounds of rubber bullets, Aditmari Police Station officer-in-charge Masud Rana said.
Three policemen were also sustained injured during the clash, he added.
