Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB), the local chapter of Berlin-based watchdog Transparency International has demanded a law banning the boycott of the parliament. It also wants to scrap the membership of a MP if he/she does not attend House sessions for 30 days.
The Transparency International Bangladesh made the proposals at a press conference on Saturday at the Brac Center to mark the unveiling of its ‘Declaration of Parliamentary Openness’ on the occasion of the UN-declared International Democracy Day.
Current legislature allows an MP to be absent for 90 successive working days before his membership is scrapped. In such cases, only personal absence is counted.
