An alleged shootout with police in Kushtia killed a man on early Friday who was accused of murdering an expatriate Bangladeshi.
Kumarkhali Police OC Abdul Khalek said the murder suspect died during a gun battle at Kosba in Shilaidoho.
Shahin Ali, 30, was among eight people suspected of murdering Rakibul Islam, who was a 32-year-old Malaysia resident visiting his hometown in Kumarkhali.
After being tipped off about ‘a criminal gang’ assembling in the area on the Padma river banks, police raided Kosba Ghat on early Friday.
“The criminals started firing at the police, prompting a retaliation. The gang eventually retreated and left behind a bullet-ridden body,” said OC Abdul.
Upon reaching Kushtia general Hospital, Shahin was declared dead. His body was later identified by family members and locals.
