Thomas Shannon, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs of the United States, have met with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to discuss the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir confirmed media about the meeting.
He said that Shannon made a call on the BNP chief at her Gulshan office on Monday morning and spent an hour there.
Shannon led a five-member delegation to the meeting, but did not speak to the media.
However, US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat was not present at the meeting.
Fakhrul said that Shannon and Khaleda discussed Bangladesh’s current political situation and the Rohingya crisis in detail.
Admitting that the meeting also included talks on the upcoming general election, the BNP leader refused to give any further detail on the subject.
Earlier, on Saturday, Shannon arrived in Dhaka on a three-day official visit.
He met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban on Sunday.
