The trial over the murder of Dhaka schoolgirl Suraiya Akter Risha has started after the court indicted the lone suspect Obayedul Khan.
An additional sessions judge’s court on Monday framed the charges and fixed May 8 for witnesses’ depositions.
Previously on August last year, Risha, a fourteen-old student of Dhaka’s Willes Little Flower school, was stabbed near a foot over bridge not far from her school at Kakrail.
She succumbed to her injuries three days later at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Obayedul, a tailor shop worker in an Elephant Road Mall in Dhaka, has been accused by Risha’s family of ‘harassing’ the schoolgirl over the phone for several months.
After the attackm Risha’s mother filed a case against him.
Obayedul was arrested two days later on August 31 from Sonaray Bazar in Nilphamari. He confessed to Risha’s murder in a deposition in September later.
Police pressed charges against him in November 2016.
