Law enforcers on Tuesday arrested the mastermind of Rangpur arson attack from Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari district.
He was identified as Tito Chandra Roy. His facebook post sparked mayhem in Thakurpara village of Rangpur.
“The mastermind, Titu, was held from Nilphamari,” said Home Minster Asaduzzaman Khan after visiting Thakurbari village in the district.
He said police carried out their duties as they were supposed to do, and those responsible for the agitation, no matter who they are, will be brought to justice.
“Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh is a non-communal country and no one can conspire here,” he added.
A man was killed and 20 others were hurt after police fired rubber bullets and teargas shells as violence flared up in the village on November 10 over the alleged Facebook post.
Earlier on Saturday morning, a casewas filed against more than 2,000 people over the clash and police arrested 36 people from Gangachhara and Kotwali areas on Friday night in this connection.
Over a reported Facebook post by Titu Chandra ‘demeaning’ Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PUBH), around 8,000 people from nearby villages attacked Thakurbari village.
They vandalised and torched 8-10 houses of the Hindus on November 10.
