Newly formed political party, Nagorik Oikya has tabled a 12-point recommendation including a proposal for holding the next general election under a poll-time impartial government.
Convener of the party, Mahmudur Rahman Manna placed the proposals for holding free, fair and inclusive general elections at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.
“The current government will not hold an election in free and fair manner,” Manna said while presenting his party’s proposals.
He said his party strongly opposes the proposal of holding elections under the incumbent government.
Nagorik Oikya suggested that the Election Commission can take initiatives to find out the modes of the election-time government through discussion with the political parties.
In the 12-point recommendation, Nagorik Oikya also proposed to dissolve the parliament before holding of the election.
Army deployment with magistracy power during the elections, no Electronic Voting Machines and enlistment of non-resident Bangladeshi voters are the other proposals of the party.
Nagorik Oikya had transformed into a political party from a social movement on last June. They also proposed the Election Commission to formulate a code of conduct for media for ensuring objective reporting during elections.
