The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition filed by Mufti Hannan seeking review of its verdict that upheld a High Court verdict awarding death penalty to the three in the case.
With this verdict, no legal obstacle remains for the execution of the death sentence of three Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (Huji) militants.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after holding hearing on the petition on Sunday.
On February 23, 2017, Mufti Hannan submitted the review petition against his death penalty.
Earlier, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said that if the SC dismisses Hannan’s review petition, the jail authorities can execute him.
