A Kushtia court has court has convicted a 30 -year old man over the murder of his wife four years ago.
In February 2013, Snigdha Akter Rimi, a student of Kushtia Government College, was strangled to death at the district’s Mirpur Upazila.
On Monday, Kushtia’s Chief Judicial Magistrate court ordered death sentence for the husband Shihab Uddin Shishir.
Shishir has been absconding since he secured bail in the case.
According to court documents, Sishir and second-year History student Rimi got married in 2011 without informing their families following a relationship.
Prosecutor Anup Kumar Nandi said that Shishir strangled Rimi to death on February 13, 2013 at a relative’s house in Kushtia’s Mirpur Upazila.
Shishir was arrested a month later from Tangail and he had confessed before a judge.
He later secured bail and has been absconding since then, informed Prosecutor Nandi.
